Door Hanging is a particularly complex task. There is a large list of potential complications to consider when attempting to hang a door and a number of variables that must be made consistent for a door to be hung successfully.
- The Hinges: are them aligned with the pre-existing spots featured on the frame?
If the hinge sites on the door are in the wrong position(s) they must be packed or trimmed and new hinge sites must be rebated. This is a time consuming process but is very common when hanging a door. There is the additional problem of whether the door and frame matches up with respect to how the door opens. If the frame supports a door that left hung and opens inwards then the hinges on the door must accommodate to this. If they do not they must be moved and the vacant space they leave behind must be packed.
- The Door Lock: does the lock mechanism and covering strike plate align with the mortise?
This is also a common pitfall, but can be fixed. It is easier to rearrange the mortise rather than relocate the lock mechanism, but this does not mean that it is an easy job. There is a considerable amount of work in changing this necessary detail. This is work that can and should be avoided and done with a professional service provider.
- The Bottom or Top of the Door: it may be too large or too small to fit the supporting frame.
This would require either trimming or extending the to-be-installed door. For this to be successful the door must usually be cut in square shape. However, if the frame itself is warped and not square, the door must then be cut to be consistent with the odd form of the housing frame. If the door is even a few millimetres ‘off’ then it will be impossible to guarantee a clean finish. It may be too large and then close with difficulties. It may be too small and so allow draughts to move through open gaps. It may be skewed and so put strain on the supporting frame as well as allowing draughts as well as looking peculiar.
There are a large number of considerations that must be made when hanging a door. The list of these considerations is long and the professional experience needed to accommodate them is large. It is much easier and convenient to contract someone with the talent of knowing and doing to do the job for you. This is the exact service that we offer.
Although it may seem costly, we charge a fee of $350.00 for our service. The cost is so because of the amount of work that is usually required. As is evident from the above list, there are a large number of possible complications that can be encountered when hanging a door. In addition to this the work usually requires the effort of two professionals, which we supply. The costing is therefore fair considering the likely job at hand and the professionals needed to complete it as so.
