Window Sash Repair

A rather sad puzzle to assemble. This sash needed a miracle restoration.

The weather in Wellington can be particularly temperamental especially considering the iconic wildness of Wellington wind. There are many victims of Wellingtons wind, and Windows place high on this list. If the wind is strong enough it can rip a window (messily) from the frame it is hung in which causes a variety of damage. It can splinter the hinge sites and in most cases easily make matchsticks of the sash and sand of the supported glass. The Wellington wind can be trouble.

The business of miracles: what was once decimated bundle of sticks once again has form.

Window Sash Repair

The current project was ambitious. This Window Sash Repair required a considerable amount of attention. We received the sash as a bundle of sticks: splintered and badly in need of repair, if not disposal. But, we accepted the challenge much to the disbelief of our customer, who had expected to be pushed to purchase a completely new or recycled sash. The project required a delicate hand and a lot of patience. The only fortunate fact was that the splintered parts could still be vaguely put together as a whole, this was a small but much appreciated aid for our expert joiner. This was a very welcomed and lucky fact.

There is little that we cannot modify. We can extend height, width and we can trim the exact same. We offer a variety of services intent on meeting any specific requirements or visions. A door, as selected from our stock, may seem unsatisfactory when considering its dimensions or how it is hung. It is also possible that a single detail may prove unsatisfactory–perhaps a panel present instead of light letting glass. This can all be accommodated for; hinges can be swapped, any rebated sites can be packed and unwanted panels can be removed and replaced with glass, for which we offer a catalogue of different templates.

We are also in the market of purchasing doors and other recyclables we consider appropriate for restoration. We invite anyone in the possession of such sought after materials and furnishings to contact us. We source from auctions; salvage from demolitions; purchase from home renovation sites, spring-cleaners and remodellers.
