French Doors are a popular staple of our business. They are quick to sell. We source them through a number of different methods. We source them from auctions, demolitions, removals and residential restoration projects in a number of different conditions. There are some that require a little more love and care than others. French Doors of this kind are repaired on site in our joinery workshop and then added in advertisement to our showroom stock. French Doors bought new usually produce a shock when their final price is tallied. The French Doors that we stock are preloved but are originally built with quality in mind. They are nearly always built from native timbers and still have a lifetime ahead of them. And they are always at a fraction of the cost compared with brand new. If they require any attention it is always small and easily sorted: reputtying, rejoining, filling is scrapes or accidental gaps. A preloved set of French Doors are full of earned character. They are usually built during a time of greater, more personal craftsmanship, before replica pieces became the usual standard.

French Door Rejoining & Reglazing

The current project was a lot easier than anticipated. We accepted the French Doors for repair in a poor condition. The bottom had slipped out from the joins. It was discovered that water damage had caused the joins to swell and expand and pop the bottom rail of wood to out. This risked damaging the glass because the pane was no longer set in place. Firstly, the two bottom panes were removed and set aside. Next, the bottom rail was reset into place and clamped. Through clamping, the bottom of the door was restrengthened. The panes were then set back into place and a guide of putty was applied to seal them. Finally, the bottom section of the door was primed.

There is little that we cannot modify. We can extend both height and width. We can trim the exact same. We offer a variety of services intent on meeting any specific requirements or visions. A door, as selected from our stock, may seem unsatisfactory when considering its dimensions or how it is hung. It is also possible that a single detail may prove unsatisfactory–perhaps a panel present instead of light letting glass. This can all be accommodated for. Hinges can be swapped. Any rebated sites can be packed. Unwanted panels can be removed and replaced with glass, for which we offer a catalogue of different templates.

We are also in the market of purchasing doors and other recyclables we consider appropriate for restoration. We invite anyone in the possession of such sought after materials and furnishings to contact us. We source from auctions; salvage from demolitions; purchase from home renovation sites and spring-cleaners and remodellers.
